Here’s a tip: a one ounce or less letter INSIDE the U.S. takes one stamp (41cents), no matter which state you send it to. If it weighs more, it depends on the weight and where it’s going. Most post offices have a little kiosk-type set up in the lobby where you can figure that out.

The postage is determined by the weight of the envelope. If you think one isn’t enough, or you’re just not sure, take it to the post office and have them weigh it.

1 stamp covers up to 1 ounce weight anywhere in the US unless you want faster service. Your letter will travel with everybody elses’ letters via air mail unless you choose a private carrier such as UPS or FEDX, and then it travels in different airplanes owned by those companys. Your local post office will weigh it for you if there’s any doubt in your mind about how much you can stuff in an envelope.
