I am moving to Milwaukee! My husband just got a job offer we cant refuse! I am nervous because i don’t know anything about Milwaukee or the area. I was wondering of anyone could help me by telling me where in the area is the best place to move to? I also want to know things about Milwaukee such as what there is to do there and what kind of things is milwaukee known for…. but most of all – what part of Milwaukee should i move to?

It really all depends on your personality, your needs, and your wants. Do you have a family, or are you thinking of starting one? Then you would probably want to look for a starter home on the west side near Wauwatosa (our closest suburb) or on the north side near Shorewood. Do you like being near the nightlife, going to bars, film festivals, cool restaurants, etc? Rent an apartment on the East Side (or buy a house/condo if you can afford it). Are you artsy/grungy and prefer a spacious cheap apartments in neighborhoods with other artists (but a slightly higher share of crime)? Check out the Riverwest neighborhood, just west of the East Side across the Milwaukee River. Are you looking to split the difference: settle down and/or grow up, plan for a future, buy a house, but not necessarily move away from the cool bars, concert venues, and the like? Right now in Milwaukee that’s kinda what Bayview (south of downtown) is all about. Houses are going for cheap right now, but they are good investments. The neighborhood is thriving.

Wauwatosa is my favorite area, then Shorewood, Whitefish Bay(if you can afford it). The East side area around Brady street is the younger trendy side of town, there’s lots of nice areas near the lake on the east side too.
December 6, 2009, 9:35 pmBut for moderate pricing, nice neighborhoods, good schools, lots of shopping, parks, etc…… I’d say Wauwatosa. It’s a very nice area, and it’s still considered Milwaukee county. It also borders Brookfield, which has TONS of shopping and things to do. If you visit wauwatosa, check out the downtown village area.
We’re known for beer…. we make lots of beer here. Summerfest, is also every summer (biggest music festival in the world), tons of festivals all throughout the city, good museums downtown, good art/music scene, plenty of good restaurants around the city, and so on.

Eastside is nice/artsy and a lot of action. If you want nicer more suburb type of city, check out Wauwatosa, Brookfield, New Berlin, Greenfield.

whatever you do, do not move to the north side…this is where the slums are, also the general rule for streets is the lower number you get the worse are your in (as regards to the north side) If you need to stay in the city trying living by the border of either mennomonie falls, or wauwatosa. Also the west allis area is worth looking into too…
