We all know that the job market is pathetic (unless you have the privilege) to live in a huge city such as: New York, Dallas, Fort Worth, Michigan, San Deigo, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Milwaukee, Miami, Spokane, Las Vegas etc…

Why are not employers seeking people to work for them part-time if the job market is so bad?

I look online for jobs (office jobs folks) and all I see are full-time positions. Do these employers actually believe that everyone looking for a job is either 1. has the privilege to have a car of their own or 2. WANTS to work full-time.

Where is the part-time job market for office jobs? Where are those companies that hire new graduates on a internship basis for 15-20 hours per week?

(Oh, let me guess. Those positions are not in Perris California. At least, not yet, am I right?)
I’m already a senior at Univeristy of Redlands School of Business-thank you though. See, I AM getting my “education” as many of you have stated.

Heard Harley is buying the Italian MV Agusta Company. Is this a good move on Harley’s part? How are they going to market a$$-less chaps and vests with fringe to the sport bike crowd? Where will buyers of MV Agusta’s bungee cord on American flags and stuffed animals? Will Elton John sing at MV Agusta gatherings like he did in Milwaukee for Harley’s anniversary? Will they add another person to the Village People dressed as a sport rider? Inquiring minds want to know.

Ricky Rubio, Yi Jianlian, and other international players tend to think they get to choose the teams they would play for and it ruins the NBA.

This is why small-market teams are always at the bottom of the standings. Because some players especially the high draft picks, when drafted by small-market teams like Memphis, T-wolves and Milwaukee always wants to be traded to big market teams like LA and New York.

They should be grateful they even make it to the NBA. Teams are the ones who are supposed the pick the players, not the other way around!

Some guys have to man up and play for the team that drafted them.

The NBA is turning into a marketing campaign rather than a basketball league and it’s getting annoying.

For those who don’t want to play for a specific team should not avail themselves in the draft. That should be an NBA rule.

The bucks had so many chances to at least make the playoffs and the players like Michael Redd and Andrew Bogut are injury prone. Andrew Bogut is a bust. I don’t think they will never be a contender in the East for a very long time.

Of course its never good when you refuse to play for the team that drafts you, but is the case with Yi in Milwaukee the same as it was for Eli Manning with the Chargers or any of the other high-profile trade-demanding rookies?

I can respect, at least, the desire of high-profile athletes to want to play for winners, and not wanting to be the cornerstone of a rebuilding team that may be several seasons from the playoffs. But is it fundamentally worse in a case like Yi’s, where you dont want to play for a team because you wont be able to market yourself there?

I know its more the Chinese management than Yi himself, but it seems like a much bigger insult to the league when you just treat them as a means to and end of making yourself famous and selling jerseys back in Beijing first, and playing the game second.

THIS IS A BIT LONG READ IF YOU HAVE TIME: Do you think that we’d be able to get a business class seat if we don’t buy it way ahead of time but just try to upgrade exactly 24 hours online (Air Tran’s rule) before the flight takes off. This is my problem. We received two free tickets for a trip and we have to fly air tran, but my husband is sort of a bigger guy, (think football player type) and we need a bigger seat for him. I hate for him to have to squeeze into those tiny air tran coach seats.

Anyway I’ve seen Business class on Air tran and that would work fine and we could enjoy a trip to Vegas then. But the tickets are only good for coach and then the only thing we can do is buy the upgrade to Business class for about $99 each way which we can afford. (NOTE: But we can’t afford an entire new ticket in Business class since that’s 1,000 bucks and they won’t let us use our coach ticket towards the more expensive Business class ticket.)

Anyway the people on the 800 line said the only way to do it is to wait till 24 hours before the flights to try to get a 99 dollar ugrade to Business class online but it is “first come first serve” and if people pre-paid for the expensive Business class seats at $1,000 the 12 seats could be sold out totally I guess too, sooooo,,,,

now I’m worried we’ll have this huge trip planned , hotels etc.,and at the last day before have to cancel it and lose my free tickets since my husband might not fit in the little seats and they might force us to pay for an entire last minute extra seat for my husband which we couldn’t really afford at $500 coach either,and Business class would be sold out.

So my real question is: how likely do you think a flight from Milwaukee to Vegas or Atlanta to Vegas (or Vegas to Atlanta, or Vegas to Milwaukee back again) would be sold out PRIOR to the 24 hour restriction? The agents said there’s no way to really know, but that usually business class people know it’s cheaper to just wait to the 24 hours before and then do it online. What do you think from all your business traveling.Thanks if you know….
ALSO is there a time of week or a certain month that a flight most likely wouldn’t be full compared to other times or months to vegas? Or nowadays are almost ALL flights filled to the max to Vegas?

I answered a question about small market teams with a reference to the largest media markets in the country. This challenges the notion that Oakland, part of the fifth biggest media market in the country, and Minnesota, the 15th biggest, are small market teams.

The smallest media markets with MLB teams are Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, San Diego, Baltimore and St. Louis. Thus, I attempted to make the argument the Cardinals are in fact a small market team that just happens to have tradition and a strong fan base going for them.

How exactly does MLB define a small market team and how should it and we as fans? To me, not having a strong regional television network does not by definition make you a small market team – they are two different things.

I must be misinformed, so can someone please rationally explain why the A’s and Twins should be considered small market teams in baseball?

THe Brewers were Originally the Seattle Pilots and played in the AL Western Division. They relocated to Milwaukee and played in the AL East and now in the NL Central. Is there any other team that has played in three different divisions since divisional play began in 1969?

As U.S. leaders craft policies to curb illegal immigration from Mexico, the U.S. Federal Reserve is devising programs to extend banking services to undocumented immigrants. A new remittance program aims to bring Mexican migrants who send money home into the mainstream U.S. financial system, regardless of their immigration status.

Dubbed “Directo a Mexico,” the remittance program enables U.S. commercial banks to make money transfers for Mexican workers through the Federal Reserve’s own automated clearinghouse, which is linked to Banco de Mexico, the Mexican central bank.

To use the service, a Mexican need only possess a matricula consular, an ID issued by the Mexican consulate in most major U.S. cities to those with proof of Mexican birth or citizenship, or a picture ID card issued by the U.S. or another foreign government. The idea is to make it cheaper and safer for Mexican workers to send funds to their relatives.

“We offer an extremely competitive exchange rate,” said Elizabeth McQuerry, an Atlanta-based assistant vice president for the Federal Reserve Bank’s retail payments office. “We cost a third of other providers.”

The majority of immigrants currently make transfers, which average $350 each, through companies like Western Union or a hodgepodge of wire-transfer firms, couriers and others that operate out of storefronts in Hispanic enclaves. Family members then collect the wired cash at a shop in their town or village.

The Federal Reserve Bank and Banco de Mexico launched a cross-country road show during the summer to promote the new funds-transfer program to commercial banks. Banks that offer the service hope to attract new customers. Indeed, one of the Federal Reserve Bank’s goals is to use the program as a springboard for drawing hundreds of thousands of immigrants into the formal U.S. banking system because commercial banks require that those wanting the service first open a savings account.

“People who didn’t have bank accounts establish a relationship with us,” said James Maloney, chairman of Mitchell Bank in Milwaukee, one of the first banks to offer the Federal Reserve Bank’s remittance scheme. “It’s great for our business.”

Acknowledging that many Mexicans sending money home are illegal immigrants, the Federal Reserve’s brochure poses the following frequently asked question: “If I return to Mexico or am deported, will I lose the money in my bank account?” The answer: “No. The money still belongs to you and can be easily accessed at an ATM in Mexico using your debit card.”

A team at the Federal Reserve Bank in Atlanta joined forces with a team at the Mexican central bank to design the Directo a Mexico program in response to a mandate by President Bush, following the U.S.-Mexico Partnership for Prosperity struck by Bush and Mexican President Vicente Fox in 2001. One of the stated objectives was to lower the cost paid by Mexican workers to send money to their native country.

The Federal Reserve Bank’s brochure touts the favorable foreign-exchange rate, based on the official rate, and a low transfer fee. “In addition, your money is safer in the bank than in your pockets or underneath the mattress,” the brochure says.

Retail banks that participate in the program charge as little as $2.50 a transfer compared with $40 charged by some transfer services. Retail banks in the program pay the Federal Reserve 67 cents per transfer.

Most immigrants operate in a cash economy outside the formal banking system, where they have neither credit nor identity. In a post 9/11 era, bringing immigrants into the banking system – and tracking their remittances – is vital to security, supporters say.

Critics, however, say the Federal Reserve Bank is coddling illegal immigrants and helping them engage in capital flight. “Anything that makes it easier for people to live in this country illegally is an inducement for illegal immigration,” said Ira Mehlman, a spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform, an immigration-restrictionist group. “On top of that, it is draining money out of our economy.”

Latin American migrants in the U.S. transferred $53 billion to $55 billion to their native countries last year, according to the Inter-American Development Bank. About $20 billion went to Mexico, $12 billion to Central America and the Dominican Republic, and the rest to South American countries.

Remittances sent by Mexicans topped $15.5 billion in the first eight months of this year, 20 percent higher than the amount sent during the same period in 2005, according to Mexico’s central bank, and this year’s annual figure is expected to hit a new record. Savings scraped together by nannies, painters and others working abroad are now Mexico’s second-largest source of foreign revenue, after oil exports and ahead of tourism.

Since the Federal Reserve launched the program last year, about 150 U.S. financial institutions have enrolled. While most Mexicans continue to avoid banks, consumers using the program seem happy with it. Julian Gimenez, who works for a landscaping company in Milwaukee, for years had sent money to his wife, Catalina, in Jalisco, Mexico, through a wire-transfer company in his Latino neighborhood. Now, Gimenez uses Mitchell Bank. “It’s cheaper to send the money and it arrives faster than any other place,” he said.

Last month, the program was expanded to enable migrants in the U.S. to open an account for relatives to whom they plan to send money. A bank teller in the U.S. can open the account remotely on a Web site set up by Mexico’s Banco del Ahorro Nacional y Servicios Financieros, the development bank known as Bansefi, which has a vast network of branches in urban and rural areas.

The beauty of the program, says Bansefi’s Chief Executive Officer Javier Gavito, is that the “unbanked population” on both sides of the border gets into the formal banking system. In Mexico, only half of all adults hold a bank account.

Directo a Mexico “revolutionizes the remittance market,” said John Herrera, co-founder of Latino Community Credit Union, which has five branches in North Carolina and participates in the remittance program.

“U.S. banks have realized that these working-class folks are sending real money back home,” said Herrera.

I need to go to Milwaukee for a business trip very soon. I am from New York City. Am I better off driving or is there a way I can rent a car so that I can fly and avoid all the headaches? The main downside to driving is that I have a leased vehicle and 2,000 miles will disappear instantly and I will get charged for going over my miles by the end of the lease.
